Today we have the privilege of sharing an early stream of two featured track(s) taken from the upcoming split album from San José, Costa Rica-based quartet MORTUAL and Seattle, Washington-based trio NOROTH. With ‘Noroth / Mortual‘ each band reinforce their own unique station among the heaviest ‘old school’ death metal inspired acts in their respective regions while taking on darker, brutally struck material. Within Side A Noroth showcase increasingly ambitious new-old school entrenched songcraft while Mortual‘s Side B rips through their crypt-bound thrashing late 80’s inspired sound with signature morbid adrenaline. A class pairing of two distinct bands both experiencing serious upsurge in craft and capability.
Today’s premiere includes one song from each band starting with Noroth‘s “Sepulcher ov Hollowed Eyes” which vocalist/bassist Biaggo describes as “a bleak journey that crosses five hellish entities, each representing a stage of grief when confronted with a doom-laden inevitable fate.” while drummer Mike indicates the ambitions of the band’s efforts contained within this song, naming it: “The longest and most dynamic song we have ever written. Pushing our violence and darkness as far as possible.” and their assessment is well reinforced by the piece.
As suggested, Mortual‘s piece, “Crown of Unbeing”, has the rush of classic late 80’s/early 90’s death metal summon the perfect medium for the band’s personification of death, described as: “A descent into the darkest layers of nothingness. Crown of Unbeing embodies the heaviness of the void and the desecration of the flesh, shaping a state of diabolical agony where death is not an end, but the enthronement into absolute damnation.” as these fellowes prove once again themselves a cut above in this realm.

Per the Press Release:
Two of the most compelling names in today’s underground death metal scene are set to collide in one devastating release. NOROTH (USA) and MORTUAL (Costa Rica) proudly announce their upcoming split album, arriving October 30th, 2026 on 12″ vinyl via Night Terrors Records (Netherlands) and CD/MC via Goat Throne Records (USA).
Bringing together six brand-new tracks and one cover, the split showcases two bands that continue to champion the timeless values of death metal: memorable riffs, carefully crafted songwriting and an uncompromising dedication to atmosphere over excess. In an era where technical display and sonic density often overshadow composition, NOROTH and MORTUAL stand apart by writing songs that linger long after the final note fades.
NOROTH contribute three exclusive tracks, expanding upon the cavernous and battle-scarred sound that has established them as one of the strongest emerging forces in American death metal. Their material seamlessly blends suffocating heaviness with haunting melodies and a sense of organic flow that recalls the genre’s finest traditions without ever feeling derivative.
On the other side, MORTUAL unleash four new songs steeped in blasphemy, violence and relentless aggression. The Costa Rican quartet delivers their most focused and punishing material to date, balancing savage intensity with memorable riffing and a commanding sense of dynamics that reflects years of dedication to the underground.
Coinciding with the release, NOROTH will embark on a European tour alongside American death metal legends Drawn And Quartered, running from October 29th through November 13th, 2026, with booking handled by Killtown Bookings.
