Today we have the privilege of sharing an early stream of “He Rows” the latest featured track taken from Athens, Greece-based death metal trio CASKET DWELLER‘s debut full-length album ‘River of Slumber‘. Howling down the corridor since 2022 the band’s ranks include folks you might recognize from thrashers Exarsis and brutal death whippers Extreme Violence but their style here is informed by the rallying swat of peak Asphyx, Morgoth and carries the roar of HM-2 built Swedeath up front. Graveyards, wretched creatures, evil magicians and more feature on this horror themed ‘old school’ inflected death metal record where the standards of the early 90’s are achieved beyond the usual aesthetic-level acts, cultivating an impressive amount of variety on the brick-heavy roll through.
Today we’re taking a first look at “He Rows”, an early album track which stretches from a doomed pummel to a kicking swarm and back again as their morbid tale is told. In fact, the band suggests each song on this album tells its own story with horror cinema in mind: “‘He Rows’ gives the point of view of death himself as he rows his boat to carry the dead across the river Styx. He curses and envies the dead for he is perennially bound to his fate to carry them to the other side. The theme of the story is presented in a similar fashion to gothic poetry and it deals with the infinite cycle of life and death. As for the music, while it is death metal in its essence, the song structure, as is the case for all of the tracks on the album, is put together in a manner that resembles a movie script in as much a way as such a parallel can be drawn”.

Nuclear Winter Records is proud to announce the release of “River of Slumber”, the debut album from Greek death metal band CASKET DWELLER, set for release on October 22nd, 2026 on CD format (LP and tape version to follow later).
Hailing from Athens, Greece, CASKET DWELLER deliver a deeply rooted take on traditional death metal. Formed in 2022, the band quickly established itself within the Greek underground through a series of live appearances across the country.
From the beginning, CASKET DWELLER have built their identity around more than just music: their visual aesthetic draws heavily from classic horror cinema of the 1940s and gothic literature, influences that also permeate the atmosphere of “River of Slumber”, creating a world where darkness, decay and heavy riffs come together. The band’s debut album is a tribute to the foundations of death metal while maintaining a strong sense of personality. Built around memorable, riff-driven compositions, “River of Slumber” showcases a band with a clear understanding of the genre’s traditions and the ability to transform those influences into songs that flow naturally from start to finish.
While the production carries the unmistakable imprint of the Swedish death metal school, the album’s musical DNA reaches further, incorporating elements from the classic Florida scene and the heavier Dutch tradition.
