An Early Stream of VIANDE “Monolithe de Chagrin” from ‘Monument Aux Mortes’ (2026)PREMIERE

Today we have the privilege of sharing an early stream of “Monolithe de Chagrin” the fifth featured track taken from Chambéry, France-based atmospheric black/death metal quartet VIANDE‘s sophomore full-length album ‘Monument Aux Mortes‘. Already proven as mind-rending sorcerers of tension amidst suffocating atmosphere these folks return four years beyond their debut no less martial in their application of darker, even more debilitating dread. Within the context of doom-ruptured and oft dissonant blackened death grooves atmosphere is perhaps the main scourging threat within this second album, a writhing leviathan beyond the scale of the band’s debut sure to stoke the minds of Grave Miasma, Abyssal and Ignivomous fandom alike.

Today’s subject “Monolithe de Chagrin” comes right at the pinnacle of Side A‘s action following a series of longer, twisted pieces. Featured as one of the shorter and more directly cut death metal dominated songs on the album its placement purposefully breaks from the ramping gloom and disorientation of their path with a destructive pulse. A fine example of how Viande‘ve finely tuned their work in the years between.

Thanks goes out to Viande and the good folks at Transcending Obscurity Records for the opportunity to share this song early. Info –

French band Viande do more than create scarring, wholesome dark and doomy death metal – they delve into the more atmospheric side of things that messes with your consciousness and has potential psychological implications. There’s an all too palpable menace in the sound – the aggressive, militaristic approach, the ominous, dread-filled music aided by a combination of abyssal growls and tormented screams, and ultimately, a haunting, eerie atmosphere touched by dissonance that wouldn’t be out of place in a horror movie. Viande‘s music sounds chaotic even during the slower, doomier parts. It exerts a kind of control over you making you more susceptible to the imagery they intend to project with their sound. When this carefully devised album ends, the feeling is akin to stumbling out of a horrific catacomb in an enhanced spiritual state, with the cries of a thousand dead souls still ringing in your head. “Monument aux morts” is an exceptional album in the style and definitely not one for the faint of heart.
