Today we have the privilege of sharing an early stream of “Pale” the second preview song taken from ‘Black Onyx Cave‘ the debut full-length album from Portuguese blackened death metal duo CHAPEL OF SAMHAIN. Shaped by the hands of the good folks responsible for Grog, Velório, and Nethermancy this relatively new undertaking grants entrance to the sightless pits and fatal caverns of ‘old school’ blackened death metal where the blasphemic gloom of early United States black-death meets harrowing doom-steeped death metal which is appropriately cavernous. An impure fixation upon the abyss delivered with incredible intensity this album greets us with tunneling death and shambling horror complete with some exceptional keyboard integration for an extra layer of Eldritch haze.

Our focus today is upon the Side A ender, the deeper creep inward presented by “Pale” a song which does well to showcase the classics informed death metal thrust of the band insisting they’ve got some late 80’s through early 90’s brutality in hand as well as touching upon the harrowing Demoncy-esque riffcraft and atmosphere which they are capable of. This is of course only one facet of this impressive, organically achieved debut LP which might invoke the fatal morbidity of early Samael or Acheron one moment and Morgoth or ‘Dawn of Possession‘ the next without being wholly beholden to the strictures of old.

A path has been made for so long that desire gave birth to a new dimension of horror, where the graves awake at night and swallow the breathless.

Black Onyx stared into this abyss and sealed a lefthand pact with Phoros to rot the alchemy upon the philosophical stone. These fumes wrecked the pillars of time and procreated a vicious ensemble of smothering tunes towards ruin baptized under the moniker CHAPEL OF SAMHAIN.

Totally architected in a monolithic vision and crafted in the sulphuric womb of lunacy both musicians accepted this challenge outside their other musical projects (Grog, Velório & Nethermancy) to embrace and celebrate the newborn spirits of the dead.

Wandering through the extreme and obscure catacombs of the old school metal scripts, traces of death, black with eerie symphonies gather for a mass of skull crushing hymns along with a choir of morbid enchantments that turn down the crosses for the CHAPEL OF SAMHAIN hordes as the ambiences grow thicker within the abyssic layers of doom.
