An Early Stream of SERPENT OF OLD ‘Ensemble Under the Dark Sun’ LP (2023)PREMIERE

Today we have the privilege of sharing an early stream of the debut full-length album from Ankara, Türkiye-based black/death metal metal quintet SERPENT OF OLD. Though this project is new their crew is certainly seasoned, arriving upon this first statement having fully formed their sound, style and aesthetic where classic death/thrashing sensibilities align with modern abstract black/death metal technique and scale. ‘Ensemble Under the Dark Sun‘ is remarkable for its challenging but ultimately readable showing of brutality and incredibly tense riffcraft which entertains throughout the full listen. The album releases this Friday, June 30th on compact disc and digitally by way of the good folks over at Transcending Obscurity Records.

Thanks goes out to the artist, their label and representation for the opportunity to share this album a few days early. Per the Press Release:

Serpent of Old from Turkey meld influences from various genres to play an absolutely mesmerizing form of predominantly death/black metal music that does so much more. The music seamlessly transitions from ambitious progressive riffing to parts that are dark and doomy, even indulging in fiery solos and doleful tunes that showcase their emotional depth. A multi-faceted beast, it keeps changing things up without betraying the true nature; everything is intuitively done and executed to perfection. It’s the only way Serpent of Old are able to write songs that are almost 10 mins long and retain your interest throughout the duration. It’s a complex album that you can easily get lost in without feeling disoriented. And that’s reason enough for you to keep revisiting it over and over again and invariably discover new facets each time. This is a fantastic, highly accomplished album that is easily one of the highlights in recent times.
