Today we have the privilege of sharing an early stream of ‘An Obsessive Desire to be Very Flexible‘ the latest collaborative album from Chernihiv, Ukraine-based experimental artist TUNGU. In the tradition of free improvisation, electronic experimentation, and perhaps musique concrète artist Sergiy Senchuk has been on an intensely prolific run in the last few years via numerous collaborative recordings of various design. Though recent works have featured duo configurations this latest tape brings in a different collaborator for each song, ensuring each piece reads as its own feature while Senchuk‘s surgery upon (and around) these improvised vignettes aims for expression rather than uniform coherence. Counting thirteen pieces and spanning nearly ~70 minutes the listener can expect to vacillate between ear-pinging immerse and outright discomfort on the ride through. Highlights for my taste include “Lonely Pixels” which features Estonian free improviser/sound artist Elo Masing, the broken necked wrestle through Pass On” featuring German jazz/electronic improviso Erhard Hirt, and the suite of vocal pieces which closes the album. A full list of collaborators and instruments used follows in the press release below.
Thanks goes out to Wave Guardian Records and Tungu for the opportunity to share this album early. Scroll down to the Bandcamp embed below to finalize your descent… As always, support the worldwide experimental music scene and grab a copy on Cassette tape this coming April 20th, 2026:
Per the Press Release:
“An Obsessive Desire to be Very Flexible” features a different guest artist on each track with Sergiy Senchuk connecting the dots via samples, field recordings and vocal performances. Instruments range from guitar, saxophone, electronics & synthesizers to violin, banjo, bagpipe, percussion & piano (both broken and in working condition) across the thirteen tracks, taking you on an aural journey delving into the internal psychology of the human experience as well to the outer realms of metaphysics and everywhere in between. There are moments of peace and tranquility splattered with bursts of stress and disorder.
Tungu aka Senchuk (Chernihiv, Ukraine):
All the buzz began from the group of like-minded people called Kollektiv, which was about spontaneous intuitive improvisation. At the same time another band, Remorse (hardcore/crust/grind), was born, and later Keepleer 18 (stoner/sludge) was formed, then Abusive Fisherman (a crazy mix of genres) came about, and later Opus Hereticus (black metal/punk) followed. The idea of the Tungu project appeared in 2014 as a mixture of cut-tape, samples, field recordings, and live instruments. After three releases the concept of making duo albums came to mind. Afterwards, many albums followed consisting of duets with musicians from all over the world. There were also separate albums with Henry Kaiser, Hui-Chun Lin, and a trio album with Mia Zabelka, Tungu, and Stefan Strasser. At the moment, an album with Mitsuru Tabata (a member of Boredoms, Zeni Geva, and other groups) is expected to be released…
