Today we have the privilege of sharing an early stream of ‘Nexus Teleport Fracture‘ the debut full-length album from Heredia, Costa Rica-based progressive death metal trio VOIDSTAR NOCTURNAL. Formed just a few years ago between folks you’ll recognize from Deiphago, Corpse Garden and Advent of Bedlam this band notably overlays esoteric sci-fi narrative atop a high standard for broad-set experimental death metal. By performing and recording this debut live at Colin Marston‘s Menegroth Studios the trio’ve set an impressive bar for themselves with consideration for the dense, highly technical veering on hand wherein blackened dissonance and harried bass-driven expression highlight their imposing rhythmic churn. Beyond the riff and abysm-gazing ruin of their work lies a willingness to breach fresh portals into the unknown as everything from electro-industrial, dark space ambient and different types of percussion take us out of sub-genre specificity into unnerving fusion. I’ll have plenty more to say in full review of the album soon but for now enjoy one of the better extreme metal records released this month.
