Today we have the privilege of sharing an early stream of “Skeletal Vortex” the latest preview song taken from ‘Altar of Brutality‘ the debut full-length album from San José, Costa Rica-based death metal trio MORTUAL. In torment of creation for nearly a decade this vision of thrashing morbid brutality finds its actualization beyond the breakthrough of the band’s 2023 EP ‘Evil Incarnation‘, an inspired comingling of Florida death metal traits and the blistering heat of Central and South American death/thrash. This debut LP proves even more consistent in darkening shades of (early) Monstrosity and (early) Morbid Angel with their own breakneck volatility, a sound which fans of Mortem (Peru) and Sadistic Intent will appreciate off the jump. This track we’re previewing today, “Skeletal Vortex”, pours gasoline on the fire as an explosive act on the second half of the album. At that point they’ve still got a hundred more riffs to chop through yet they manage to keep momentum blazing through ’til the end with caustic and thrashing songs like this.

Rising from the oppressive crypts of Central America, MORTUAL is ready to deliver their most unrelenting statement of intent yet. Following a trilogy of celebrated EPs, the Costa Rican death metal cult will release their long-awaited debut full-length, “Altar of Brutality”, on LP, CD and MC format on July 4th, 2025 through Nuclear Winter Records.

Spawned in the black rain and pestilent winds of San José, “Altar of Brutality” is a declaration of total spiritual negation: eight impure hymns steeped in decay, fanatic violence and the iconoclastic hunger to desecrate all that is sacred. Carrying forward the cursed legacy of their previous EP “Evil Incarnation”, MORTUAL now reach deeper into the void, channeling a darker, more oppressive sound, dripping with heretical intent and sharpened through years of relentless underground devotion.
