Today we have the privilege of sharing an early stream of “Lo que Mora en el Subconsciente” the second preview song taken from ‘Tempus Edax Rerum‘ the sophomore full-length album from Argentinian death metal trio ATAUDES. The bands style could be described as atmospheric death metal, headier stuff with shades of expansive black/death metal which they’ve amped since their self-released 2020 debut LP. On this album they’ve made good use of obsessive dissonant and blackened movements to extend the delirium and moldering step of their work, creating distraught and malevolent pieces with at-times difficult to predict threads woven into their rhythms.

“Lo que Mora en Eld Subconsciente” is a fine example of the knots they tie in some sense but also the swaying, gloomed over atmosphere Ataudes excel at. Landing in the middle of the full listen after steeping in the moodier excitement and aggressive dissonant strikes of the first few pieces this song is the mountain built and the careen downward, a slow build that pays out in pressurized and chaotically scrambling dismay. While this is one of the more experimentally struck, noxiously fuming parts of the album I’d emphasize that every song on ‘Tempus Edax Rerum’ finds its own twist or temperamental tangent to keep the ear guessing between frenetic pure death metal trod and inventive rhythmic tension. Fans of the inventive strokes of Immolation, Gorguts as well as the headier trips of Krypts, Grave Miasma, and Temple Nightside at their most experimental should appreciate this song and the riff-heavy reap of the album overall.
