ENDTYMER | February 9th, 2025

ENDTYMER is the semi-weekly recap, occasional blogspace, and new release round-up column. It hits at the end of (most) every week with the intent of covering notable new releases, sharing news, and musing over various personal listening habits. It is largely informal, might contain opinions, etc. so chill out a bit. I do my best to cover as much of everything I receive in some form regardless of genre or representation, don’t hesitate to send anything and everything my way: grizzlybutts@hotmail.com

UPCOMING RELEASES

Catch up with the latest new release announcements for albums I am likely to cover.

ROTHADÁS Töviskert… a kísértés örök érzete… lidércharang [MSUO/Pulverised]

Me Saco Un Ojo Records and Pulverised Records have announced March 21st as the release date for Hungarian death/doom metal duo ROTHADÁS‘ sophomore album. ‘Töviskert… a kísértés örök érzete… lidércharang‘ will release on vinyl and CD and appears to replicate the major successes of their 2021 debut LP, easily one of the best albums released that year. This is probably the most anticipated LP on the horizon for my own taste. Check out a song over on Bandcamp:

Vancouver, British Colombia-based death metal band GRAVE INFESTATION have announced their sophomore full-length album ‘Carnage Gathers‘ will release this coming February 28th on Dark Descent Records and Invictus Productions. Three years beyond their debut these folks are back with their late 80’s ‘old school’ death metal inspired sound as they aim to explore further extremes within their sound. The band comments on the album: “It’s a frantic death metal assault! Violent, and unrelenting. The fast parts are faster, the slow parts are slower, and everything is just plain nastier. It’s like we made an album that sounds like it came out even before our first album.” Judge for yourself and check out the album’s title track “Carnage Gathers”:

Caligari Records have announced March 7th as the release date for DEATH PULSATION‘s debut demo, titled ‘Demo‘, on cassette tape. This Swedish crew formed last year inspired by black/death metal intensity a la Angelcorpse, Kaamos, Vorum, Katharsis, Morbid Angel, et al. Reminds me of those German death metal records Manuel Tinnemans did album art for in the 2000’s, the era of Beyond and Degial etc. Great tape, and all you’ll need to hear is the first preview song “Eater of Stars”:

Columbus, Ohio-based heavy rock quartet LO-PAN have shared the music video for “Ozymandias” the first single from their forthcoming album. ‘Get Well Soon‘ will release this coming April 4th. Guitarist Chris Thompson comments on the single: “We wrote ‘Ozymandias’ as the last song for the album and when I came up with these riffs, I immediately knew that they belonged on this record, and the rest of the guys ultimately agreed“, as you’ll see in a moment the video features their mothers performing the song in the video but it also comes with some passing commentary on the “impermanence of power and also the existence of objective truth“, catchy song as expected and a good time:

This coming April 11th Personal Records will release the sophomore full-length album from German blackened death metal duo THE INFERNAL DECEIT. ‘The True Harmful Black‘ will release on CD format. The core duo of guitarist/bassist C and vocalist R take notable inspiration from one of my favorite eras of Swedish metal with strong inspiration taken from the melodic black/death metal territory of the 90’s making special mention of Unanimated, post-debut Sacramentum, Darkside-era Necrophobic and such. I don’t have high expectations from bands in this style very often but these folks seem to know what they’re doing on this new song, “The Primordial Maze and the Crawling Chaos”:

Amor Fati Productions have announced March 21st as the release date for OSGRAEF‘s debut full-length album. ‘Reveries of the Arcane Eye‘ will release on CD and vinyl LP. These folks take on a more bestial, unhinged form of black metal on this LP, rooted in the gory blasphemies of Teitanblood, Archgoat, and the ilk. Mentions of gnostic/luciferian themes has me interested. Check out the first preview track “Magick Wound”:

Osmose Productions have announced March 28th as the release date for the seventh album from Finnish black/thrash metal band URN. ‘Demon Steel‘ will release on CD, vinyl LP, and cassette tape. Glad to see another album from these guys, no song yet the first track premiere will be on March 3rd at Osmose‘s official YouTube channel. So, in the meantime go follow their channel and watch for the song:

Experimental Finnish entity ENTHEOMORPHOSIS will release their debut full-length album ‘PYHÄ KUILU‘ on May 23rd, 2025 via Svart Records. This band features members of Dark Buddha Rising and Mr Peter Hayden/PH/Enphin and we know to expect something different, challenging, tripped etc. Guitarist Vesa Ajomo of Dark Buddha Rising explains what this thing is: “Entheomorphosis was born in the need to refine artistic and spiritual work. During the years of turmoil and isolation, the main riffs were forged and over time they meandered into an album that has the most emotional weight that I have ever been involved with. This is the process of physical, spiritual, and mental transformation. Within this album we have captured the energy, intuition, and guidance in the most organic form possible and allowed the compositions to take their final form at a slow pace. Through this initiation, we have found the holy abyss and bravely dived into the darkness in order to find the light.” Looks great and sounds awesome.

The tenth studio album from Italian progressive death metal legends SADIST has been named (‘Something To Pierce‘) and announced for release on March 7th by way of Agonia Records. This album is set as a more aggressive follow-up to their well-received 2022 LP. Founder and maestro of the whole affair Tommy Talamanca comments that the album is: “a further step towards the definition of a unique music style, which you can’t help but love…or hate. Like it or not, nobody sounds like Sadist!” They’ve always brought something unique and riveting with each album and this one sounds particularly inspired in previews:

Extreme doom metal solo artists MIZMOR & HELL have teamed up for a huge collaboration LP, a treat for folks who appreciated their infamous split LP from years ago. ‘Alluvion‘ will release by way of Gilead Media on April 4th of this year. The folks behind each band, A.L.N. and M.S.W., “intend for the compositions on Alluvion to be used as a map to help navigate the listener through bouts of psychic distress, touching upon emotions both terribly familiar and wholly extrinsic.” and this is particularly interesting to me as a fan of each group and the pain they’re capable of inducing. Check out the first preview song:
