Today we have the privilege of sharing an early stream of ‘Visions From the Necrorealm‘ the debut EP from San José, Costa Rica-based death metal quartet NECROFERUM which releases this coming November 4th. In search of greater morbid dominion this doomed and heavily atmospheric group initially formed as a duo between key members of Mortual as they’d intended something heavier, darker in its pulverizing movements and as they’d pulled in folks from Carved Memories and Perishing that idea’d bloomed into cavernous, doomed, but equally volatile riff-obsessed craft. Described as relentless and sepulchral in its reach ‘Visions From the Necrorealm‘ offers subterranean revelation within the space of about ~24 minutes, mystifying the senses with fleet movements, punishing bursts of brutality and an all-encompassing veil of death magick energy which resounds in hypnotic waves. Of course I’ve slated a full review of the whole thing here shortly but in the meantime scroll down and check out it out for yourself. For me this is one of the (if not just the) most impressive and essential EP releases of 2024. All of the work they’ve put into the atmosphere versus the violence of it all is mind-blowing and still calls for a fully cranked stereo each time I approach it.

The band speak to their goals and experience with this recording: “After drenching the recording studio in miasmatic fog, fetid and unyielding, ‘Visions from the Necrorealm’ is now etched onto tapes for eternity. In their relentless quest for the darkest, most decayed sound, the musicians of Necroferum lost themselves, wandering down the spectral path of rot. ‘The sound of every horror conceived’ has been relentlessly pursued to provoke pure unease. With no apologies and a fierce commitment to evoke the deepest disquiet, each challenging note has been seared into existence. In the most desolate corners of the subconscious, the darkest horrors lie in wait.”

Costa Rican death metal act NECROFERUM have announced the upcoming release of their debut EP, “Visions from the Necrorealm”, on November 4th 2024 via Nuclear Winter Records.

In the heart of the Central American jungle, where shadows crawl and ancient secrets linger, NECROFERUM awakens. Born from spectral fumes and steeped in malevolence, it embodies the rotting essence of a darkness that knows no bounds. As the putrid miasma rises, it unleashes a relentless force, merciless and unforgiving, drawn from the deepest depths of evil.

NECROFERUM was established in 2023 by Juan Salas and Justin Sanchez, both of Mortual, in their pursuit of a heavier and more punishing sound. The line-up was completed with the addition of drummer Juan José Fernandez, who introduced bassist Kevin Venegas to the group. Based in San José, Costa Rica, NECROFERUM is dedicated to conjuring the sepulchral sound of spectral mists.
