Today we have the privilege of sharing an early stream of ‘Rite of Despondency‘ the debut EP from Portland, Oregon-based death/doom metal quartet SOLITARY RUIN which releases this coming August 2nd and features folks you might recognize from bands like Ossuarium among others. Their focus is generally upon the most classic era of United States death/doom metal though you’ll find surreal melodicism intertwined with their rugged 90’s death metal fixation, blending a tinge of earliest “Peaceville three” and its tragedian aura with the darkest, heaviest burl of stateside mourn be it Ceremonium, (pre-2007) Evoken or even the first Spectral Voice record. Expect direct to face riffcraft and ear-creeping leads, violent twists of morbid heat and nigh psychedelic nuance to the layers available here. I’ll have a full review of this record up later this week but I’ll say ahead of time this is easily one of the best releases of August and if you are a fan of the mutations available to classics-minded death and doom you’ll agree.
Thanks goes out to the band for the opportunity to share this EP early. Scroll down to the Bandcamp embed below to finalize your descent… As always, please do your best to support the worldwide death metal underground and grab a digital copy now on pre-order (releasees August 2nd) independently, or get a copy on Cassette Tape when they put ’em up:
