An Early Stream of FEED THEM DEATH ‘The Malady’ LP (2024)PREMIERE

Today we have the privilege of sharing an early stream of ‘The Malady‘ the fourth full-length album from Italian experimental deathgrind project FEED THEM DEATH. You may recall I’ve covered each of Void‘s releases via this always challenging, ever-changing band since their debut back in 2018 and the evolution only continues to surprise and impress with this ‘old school’ proto-grind, noisecore, and sludged-up noise rock infused fourth album which breaches newly stylized territory once again. Haunting yet furious in its presence, demented by truly avant-garde choices made at every turn, there is something satisfyingly “weird hardcore punk” (see: Born Against, Deep Wound) about this particular record that’d kept me returning to it for the unsettling way it all comes together. I’ll have a review and more coverage on the album coming up soon. For now, the band comments on both the style and the substance of their work:

For the first time since 2017 I had the chance to collaborate with a proper line-up, and that undoubtedly shaped things in a certain direction. We wanted to create something visceral and flawed, resemblant of those proto-grindcore bands like Heresy, Septic Death and early Die Kreuzen. We ended up contaminating things quite a lot in the process and included some sludge, noise rock and even some improvised jazzy bits.

Thematically – we state that people are the malady, but can also be the cure, provided that they act with an understanding of what a real rebellion should be. Not retribution, not a new order, but a revolution of the soul.

We seem to have been born to just witness the irremediable downfall of the world around us, however we are both the byproduct and producers of our own discontent. Fabricating dreams that are both selfish, mundane and completely impossible to achieve, we are like Icarus – flying with wings of feathers and wax, towards the horizon of a happiness that is unattainable unless we are ready to accept that what comes from our past and what we think we know for sure, as so we are taught, will only be deleterious for our pursuit of finding meaning and sense.

The album is a call for people to go against the grain, swimming upstream against the stygian tide of neglect and indifference. Stop being part of the issues and become the thundering solution to the problem. Winning is unimportant. Tumult is the only thing aglow.

Thanks goes out to FEED THEM DEATH, Brucia Records and their representation for the opportunity to share this album early. 3 years exactly after the critically acclaimed “Negative”FEED THEM DEATH are back with another slab of fast, dissonant and chaotic anti-music.

Eleven new tracks eccentrically fusing Grindcore, Death Metal, D-beat, Sludge, 80’s Crust-Punk / Thrashcore and Noise Rock with a deconstructed and improvisational jazz sensibility.

FEED THEM DEATH was formed in 2017 by Void, and have so far released 3 full length albums and 1 EP, building a reputation for their fiercely experimental and dissonant approach to extreme music.

For the first time since its inception featuring a full line-up, with “The Malady” the band delivers an unrelenting, unhinged, full frontal assault to the senses, creating something raw, sometimes flawed, but always viscerally real.

The lyrics are once again central to delivery of Feed Them Death message, in continuity with both the punk hardcore early scene and the project’s own ethos of utilizing a vast array of counter-cultural references to engage the listeners in a fierce critique of the world around us.

A “fuck you all”, however spelt with literacy and intelligence, borrowing from George Orwell’s 1984, or from classical references like the paraboles of Sisyphus and Icarus, to reflect upon universals such as hate, guilt or human frailty, towards a possible redemption offered by the power of individuality and the freedom of thought: because yes, “People are a malady” and what we think we know is often “Deleterious”, but “Above All… and so below – tumult is the only thing aglow!”
