Today we have the privilege of sharing an early stream of “Lethal Bite” the latest preview song taken from ‘Infected Seed‘, the debut full-length album from Italian ‘old school’ death metal trio MIASMIC SERUM. These Treviso-based folks have a clear knack for early-to-mid 90’s styled death metal and its nowadays groove heavy evolution but they’ve got every possible angle considered here packing this record with wall-to-wall riffs, proper fill-heavy drumming, mean production values, and slick album art… Not to mention how smartly they’ve approached the overall lyrical themes of their work as “Lethal Bite” sports an important point of intensity, a method of characterization they’ve put into each song on the album as the band explain:

“Lethal Bite” adheres to our approach of crafting straightforward, old-school metal tracks, adorned with dynamic drum fills for added flair in this specific case. The single features a catchy chorus that repeatedly echoes the song’s title, which aims to create a hook. We chose to close the song with a guitar solo, feeling it was the perfect culmination given the track was missing only that final touch. The lyrics of “Lethal Bite” delve into the perspective of a snake as it attacks an individual. The narrative is uniquely presented from the snake’s viewpoint, capturing its instinctual drive and the visceral experience of the encounter. This thematic choice adds a layer of depth to our overall concept based on intoxication and poisoning. We kinda like to invite listeners to immerse themselves in the predatory mindset of the serpent by listening to “Lethal Bite”.”

Rising from the vibrant Italian underground, comes death metal outfit MIASMIC SERUM and their debut album, “Infected Seed”, set for release on June 14th 2024 on their new label homes of Night Terrors Records (tape) and Chaos Records (CD format).

MIASMIC SERUM is an old-school death metal power trio born in late 2022, between Venice and Treviso, Italy. The band’s style takes inspiration from early 90’s American death metal, leading to a viperous sound that is conceptually related to poisoning, intoxication on the whole, toxic plants, animal venoms, and even personal previous psycho-nautical experiences. In fact, ‘Miasmic Serum’ stands for an unhealthy exhalation of a serum, which can be identified in the animal and plant kingdoms. Two entwined snakes in the band logo depict the Caduceus symbol, which represents a lethal dose, and the therapeutic one.

All lyrics in “Infected Seed” take inspiration from various realms and cultures, including personal experiences in the world of psychonautics, revisited with Aldous Huxley and Terence Mckenna’s literary works, between dystopian fiction and psychedelic culture, which is also based on the main use of sacred plants. Furthermore, other major analyzed themes are the Eleusinian mysteries of Ancient Greece and the shamanic traditions of the peoples of South America.

MIASMIC SERUM‘s musical style is poised and pure: guttural but clearly enunciated vocals, catchy blastbeat sections, multiple tempo changes without losing sight of classic songwriting, vicious atmospheres and speed-shredding riffs and solos that harken to the earliest days of the genre.

The single “Mortal Training”, features guest vocals from Jason Netherton of MISERY INDEX, while the title track “Infected Seed” features guest vocals from Fiore Stravino of FULCI.

The album artwork and illustration are designed by the Colombian artist Julian Mora IbanŞez.
