Today we have the privilege of sharing an early stream of “Maggot Incubation” the latest preview song taken from ‘Heretic‘, the sophomore full-length album from Malaysian death metal quintet OBSCURIAL. Carved-up by hands informed by true old school death metal these folks had already proven their mettle with their 2021 debut LP (‘Funeral, Burial and Rites‘) and here within the festering guts of album number two they cement that brutal superiority with a harder, faster, and even more atmospheric undertaking… as you’ll soon find per this particular song.

Our focus today is upon the violent charge-up of “Maggot Incubation” an anchoring piece for the full listen set in approach of midway point on the album. While the introduction of the song upholds the thrashing momentum which opens ‘Heretic‘ this piece should give folks pause thanks to its wild atmospheric middle section and memorable lead guitar runs as the song works itself out. Fans of everything from Grave Miasma and Morbid Angel to Invocator should find a lot to like as the album develops within and beyond this point.

Bio and description:
OBSCURIAL is one of the most promising, up and coming Death Metal bands from Asia, being spawned in the sewers of K-Hell (Kuala Lumpur) back in 2019 and breaking into the local underground scene with “Exaltation”, their debut 2020 demo. “Funeral, Burial and Rites”, the band’s opera prima in full-length format, was self-released in December 2021, helping them obtain more recognition and following in the underground Death Metal community. OBSCURIAL’s approach to timeless Death Metal includes gut-wrenching riffs, somber melodies and a dismal atmosphere influenced by the likes of Brain Dead, Grave Miasma, Morbid Angel, Bloodbath, Incantation, Dismember, Deicide, Grave and Darkthrone (“Soulside Journey” era).
